About David Smith

Extensive experience and professional chartered surveyor and structural engineer based in Brighton.

My career in building and construction started as a Trainee Technician in Civil Engineering in 1981, and has evolved through civil engineering, then structural engineering culminating in qualifying as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 2001.

I have worked for a local authority, consulting civil and structural engineers, and in property management. I have run my Building Surveying practice as a sole practitioner since 2006.

My experience of buildings and their construction is wide ranging and enables me to act in almost any building or maintenance project, whether that be a dispute, Party Wall matters, the planning and building of an extension or room in the roof, or just the removal of a loadbearing wall.

I specialise in building pathology. My structural engineering and building surveying experience has given me detailed knowledge about the construction of buildings and the ability to diagnose building problems quickly and, usually, without the costly trial and error approach.

My experience in residential property management allows me to advise on landlord and tenant issues. My clients in this field range from professional Property Management companies, Independent Freeholding companies, and Right to Manage companies across Brighton and beyond.

I have extensive experience in structural engineering and can provide structural calculations and details as well as structural reports on specific problems. I have been engaged to provide structural services for all types of commercial and residential properties.

A wide range of clients have used my services over the years in connection with domestic and commercial buildings, including property management companies, building contractors, developers, private individuals, solicitors and conveyancers.

Most of my work is concentrated in the Brighton and Hove area, although I am willing to travel to projects anywhere in the south east of the country. Contact me today.
